WhatsCine is a Madrid-based audiovisual accessibility company founded in 2013 with technology developed alongside Universidad Carlos III de Madrid's SoftLab. Its free iOS/Android app is the only system combining three accessibility layers at once — audio description, adapted subtitles and sign-language interpretation — synced over cinema WiFi so blind and deaf viewers can follow films without special hardware or affecting other spectators; it reached roughly 500 of Spain's 3,000 screens and powered Movistar+'s 5S accessible TV app, and won the 2015 Queen Letizia Accessibility Technologies Award. The company is very small (2-10 employees) and its last funding was the €300k 2016 crowdfunding round.
