Verse (Verse Technologies Inc.) was a Barcelona-based peer-to-peer mobile payments app — a social 'send money instantly to friends' wallet that competed with Bizum and Venmo across 27 European countries. Founded in 2015 by three then-20-year-old Spaniards, it raised roughly $30M+ across seed, Series A ($8.3M, 2016) and Series B ($20.5M, 2017) rounds before being acquired by Square (now Block) in June 2020 for a reported €30-50M. The company is no longer operating: Block shut the Verse app down on 13 September 2023 as it wound down its European P2P business.
