Smarkia is a Spanish SaaS platform for automated energy management, sitting on top of a customer's existing BMS/SCADA/metering systems to monitor, predict and actively control energy consumption in buildings, factories, retail chains and renewable installations. Founded in León in 2011 as a spin-off collaboration between IT firm Xeridia and engineering firm Simelec, it serves 300+ clients and manages over 400,000 measurement points across Europe, the US and Latin America, with roughly $9M revenue and ~50-60 employees. In November 2022 Repsol (via its Corporate Venturing/Deep Tech fund) took 33% and US renewables firm MN8 Energy took 37%, making it a corporate-backed rather than classic VC-backed company.
