UUvesco
Grupo Uvesco is a Spanish food retail group that operates the BM Supermercados, Super Amara and BM Shop supermarket chains, plus a franchise network, e-commerce service and six logistics platforms across the Basque Country, Navarre, Cantabria, La Rioja, Madrid, Ávila and Guadalajara. It was formed in 1993 from the merger of Gipuzkoan wholesaler Unialco and Cantabrian retailer VES, and today runs 335+ stores with more than 7,500 employees, with Madrid its main expansion market. It is not a startup or a VC-backed early-stage company but a large established grocery retailer; PAI Partners (private equity) held a majority stake from December 2021 until January 2026, when a consortium of Basque private investors led by CEO Ángel Jareño bought back 100% of the company.
