Patia is a Basque biotech company that combines genetic testing, metabolomic biomarkers and digital health tools to predict, prevent and manage type 2 and gestational diabetes. Its flagship products are genotyping tests such as DIABETESpredict/Diabetes Prevent, which use a saliva or cheek-swab sample to score a patient's genetic risk of type 2 diabetes and generate personalised nutrition and lifestyle plans, and it has secured reimbursement from major US private insurers. Founded in 2013 by serial biotech entrepreneur Laureano Simón (founder of Progenika Biopharma, sold to Grifols), it operates from Donostia-San Sebastián and Mexico City with commercial partners in Europe, the US, LATAM and the Middle East.
