Filmax
Filmax is a Barcelona-based Spanish film and television group spanning production, distribution, international sales, and cinema exhibition (Cines Filmax). Originally a Hollywood-film distributor founded in 1953, it was relaunched as a production powerhouse after Julio Fernández acquired it in 1987, notably creating the horror label Fantastic Factory ("[REC]", "The Machinist"); it is family-owned (Fernández family) rather than VC-backed, and founder Julio Fernández died in November 2025.
