Rice in Action is a Madrid-based foodtech company that makes professional instant rice for hotels, restaurants, restaurant groups, caterers and retail. It sells the rice under the La Santa brand. Its patent-pending technology pre-processes the rice so that broth and flavourings are sealed inside the grain. This separates industrial cooking from final preparation: dishes are ready in under four minutes, cooking time drops by about 80%, and no broth is needed. The company was founded in 2021 by Cristina Querol and Christophe País, who had run the Madrid rice restaurants La Bomba Rice Bar and La Bomba Bistrot since 2012. It sources its rice from the Cooperativa Arrocera del Pirineo and won a World Food Innovation Award. In March 2022 it raised €437,500 in a Startupxplore equity crowdfunding round, which was 125% subscribed and backed by more than 60 investors, including former Alsea CEO Fabián Gosselin. In 2023 it raised a further €870,000 at a €9.3 million valuation, with new food-industry investors including Santiago Sala's MGM Saiso.
