Peoople is a Madrid-based social recommendations app where users and influencers share and collect recommendations across movies, series, restaurants, books, music, videogames and travel, with shoppable links and creator monetisation. Originating as a Rey Juan Carlos University spin-off around 2013 and launched commercially in 2016-2017, it raised seed funding from Wayra (Telefónica), TheVentureCity, AD4Ventures (Mediaset) and angels, grew to millions of registered users, and acquired fashion social app 21 Buttons in 2021. After entering insolvency proceedings, Peoople (together with 21 Buttons) was acquired in April 2023 by Spanish digital marketing group Arkeero, which appointed Álvaro Falcó as CEO; the app remains live but the company is no longer an independent venture-backed startup.
