Digital Earth Solutions

Digital Earth Solutions is a Madrid-based ocean modelling company spun off from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It builds on more than 20 years of CSIC research in ocean dynamics. Its cloud software, SPOT, predicts where oil spills and floating objects will drift at sea within minutes, and can also trace them back in time to find where they came from, using open data from Copernicus Marine Service and Puertos del Estado. Its customers include environmental consultancies, oil and gas and shipping companies, insurers and P&I clubs, and maritime rescue and emergency services, who pay per simulation or by subscription. It was founded in 2022 by Juan Roos and María José Mancho, took part in the ESA BIC Madrid Region incubation programme, and raised an angel round of about $162K in 2023.
