Tebrio, formerly MealFood Europe, is a Salamanca-based biotechnology company that breeds the mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) at industrial scale and processes it into premium ingredients for animal feed, plant nutrition and other industrial uses. It uses its own breeding and processing technology to make insect protein, fat, biofertiliser, chitin and chitosan, and sells them B2B from a 3,500 m² plant that produces hundreds of tonnes a year. The company was founded in Salamanca in 2014 by Adriana Casillas and Sabas de Diego. In 2024 it raised €30 million in combined venture debt and equity from Banco Santander, Sodical, GCP and CDTI's Innvierte Economía Sostenible fund, alongside existing shareholder Caixa Capital Risc. The money is going into a 90,000 m² plant in Salamanca that is designed to produce more than 100,000 tonnes a year.
