Emérita Legal was a Santiago de Compostela-based legaltech company that ran a free judicial analytics and lawyer-rating platform. It used big data and AI to process hundreds of thousands of Spanish court rulings and rank lawyers by specialty on their actual court results. Consumers could find a lawyer through these objective scores, and lawyers could buy premium visibility features. Founded in Galicia in 2017 by Antonio J. Padín and Yéssica Vázquez, it drew more than 250,000 unique visitors and registered over 1,400 lawyers in its first months after launching in January 2019. That year it was named best legaltech start-up by the General Council of Spanish Lawyers together with Mobile World Capital Barcelona. In 2019 it raised a €260,000 seed round: €125,000 through the Startupxplore equity-crowdfunding platform and €135,000 from private investors from the legal and technology sectors. More than 100 business angels backed the company in total, and it received public support from ENISA and IGAPE. The company announced its closure in April 2024.
