Nataly

www.natalylife.com ↗ ·Barcelona ·Pre-seed

Nataly is a Barcelona-based femtech and medtech start-up developing a postpartum pad that measures blood loss in real time to detect postpartum haemorrhage early. Postpartum haemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide. The device has no electronic components: an absorbent mechanism gives clinicians an immediate reading of the volume of blood absorbed, without changing existing clinical workflows. It targets a unit cost of about €1.50, is designed for both hospitals and low-resource settings, and is being developed with midwives at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. A 500-patient clinical study is planned, with a rollout to Catalan and Spanish hospitals followed by licensing to established manufacturers worldwide. The project began in 2021 at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the company, Nataly Life SL, was set up in Barcelona in 2025. It is certified as an innovative start-up by ENISA, has the support of ACCIÓ and Barcelona Activa, and won the Círculo Ecuestre Joven Relevante Award and the Innovatia 8.3 Award in 2026.

United States · www.gausssurgical.com ↗
Gauss sells hospitals Triton, a system that measures blood loss in real time during surgery and childbirth so postpartum haemorrhage is caught early; it uses AI image analysis of sponges and canisters where Nataly uses a low-cost absorbent pad, and Stryker bought it in 2021.
