VViralgen
Viralgen is a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) dedicated to adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors for gene therapy, offering end-to-end support from construct optimization and plasmid DNA production through large-scale clinical and commercial cGMP manufacturing. It was launched in 2017 as a joint venture between US gene therapy company AskBio and Spanish life-sciences VC Columbus Venture Partners, with backing from the Basque Government, and operates what it describes as the world's largest AAV-dedicated facility in San Sebastián, Spain, with 400+ employees and 50+ gene therapy customers. It is headquartered in San Sebastián (Basque Country) and has been part of Bayer AG since Bayer acquired AskBio and the remaining Viralgen stake in 2020.
