Woodea

Woodea was a Valencia-based industrialized construction company (founded 2021-2022 inside Zubi Labs, the impact venture builder of Iker Marcaide's Zubi Group) that designed and built multi-family residential buildings using engineered/technical timber, combining component-based industrialization, BIM/digital processes and Lean methodology under a design-and-build model to deliver low-carbon housing at costs comparable to concrete. It raised a €1.4M pre-seed round in December 2022 (half from Zubi, half from business angels), later added debt financing from the Institut Valencià de Finances, delivered its first projects in Madrid's Arganzuela district and Burjassot (Valencia), launched the 'Woodie Flex' flexliving system at SIMA 2025, and published Spain's first report on mid-rise industrialized timber construction. Woodea ceased operations in May 2026 due to unresolved financial problems; its ~22-person team was wound down, and co-founder Pablo Saiz publicly attributed the closure to financing rather than the business model.
