Smowltech (legal name Smiley Owl Tech S.L.) develops SMOWL, an AI-based online proctoring and continuous user-authentication platform that verifies identity via webcam biometrics, browser locking and application control for digital exams and certifications. Founded in 2012 in Donostia/San Sebastián, it serves 350+ universities, training providers and enterprises across 17 countries and integrates with major LMS platforms. It raised a ~€1.65-1.7M seed round in 2022 led by impact fund Fondo Bolsa Social with Wayra and Sparkmind VC, and has previously been named a Gartner Cool Vendor and awarded an EU Horizon 2020 Seal of Excellence.
