Cimico is a San Sebastián-based biotechnology company that develops biological wastewater treatment and nutrient-removal solutions for municipal and industrial treatment plants, designing tailored processes for each client and plant, alongside digital tools for plant control. Founded in 2019 by scientist Luis Larrea Urcola, who has more than 40 years of experience in wastewater biotechnology, and Inés Larrea, the company employs 44 people, quadrupled its revenue in 2025 compared with the previous year, and earns more than half of its business abroad across some 25 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Mexico, Chile and the United Kingdom. Cimico raised a first €750,000 capital increase in November 2021, followed in July 2023 by a €7 million round led by Moira Capital Partners together with Inbergune Capital Partners, who took a combined 30% stake, to fund R&D and the industrial scale-up of five new technologies.
