AAgora Awards
Agora Awards is a Barcelona-based digital art platform where photographers and other creators upload their work, such as photographs, video and audio, and enter sponsored contests with cash prizes and other rewards, while the community votes for the winners. It started as AGORA images, a free social app for the global photography community, and later grew into a wider digital art platform with a marketplace for NFTs of artists' work. Octavi Royo and Elisabet Sort founded the company in Barcelona in 2015, and the app launched in 2016. By mid-2018 it had two million users who had uploaded more than six million photos from over 190 countries. The company raised about €2M in 2018 from investors including Gerard Piqué, Mnext Venture Capital, WidInvest, Soller Invest and members of the ESADE BAN and IESE angel networks. In April 2022 it closed a €2.2M round with support from Adyen founding-team member Chris Bouwer and international crypto-market investors.
