Unlockd is a Madrid-based decentralised finance (DeFi) lending protocol that lets holders borrow against NFTs and tokenised real-world assets such as luxury watches, real estate and collectibles, and keep using those assets while they serve as collateral. It started with instant, cross-chain loans backed by NFTs through a pooled liquidity model, first serving blockchain gaming guilds, and with its V2 mainnet it moved to real-world assets as a permissionless liquidity protocol. The company was founded in Madrid in early 2022 by Jorge Schnura, co-founder of the MAD Lions esports club, and Carlos Otermin. In August 2022 it raised a $4.4M seed round led by Blockchain Capital, with Sfermion, Spartan Group, Play Ventures, IDEO CoLab, Yield Guild Games and several other crypto-focused funds and angels taking part.
