Biome Makers is an agtech company that analyses the soil microbiome with DNA sequencing and machine learning. Its patented BeCrop platform turns soil biology data into insights on crop risk, yield and soil health for farmers, agronomic advisors and retailers, ag-input manufacturers and food and beverage companies. The platform covers more than 200 crops in over 56 countries, draws on a taxonomic database of 55 million microorganisms, and its product line includes BeCrop Farm, BeCrop Test, BeCrop Trials and BeCrop Rate. Founded in 2015 by Spanish co-founders Adrián Ferrero and Alberto Acedo, the company has its headquarters in Davis, California, and a laboratory in Valladolid. It raised a $4M Series A in 2019 co-led by Seaya Ventures and JME Ventures with LocalGlobe, followed in 2021 by a $15M Series B led by Prosus Ventures with Viking Global Investors, Pymwymic, Seaya Ventures and JME Ventures.
