Swipcar is a Barcelona-based online car subscription and leasing marketplace for individuals, self-employed professionals and businesses. Customers choose a vehicle, the length of the contract and the mileage online, then pay one monthly fee that covers insurance, maintenance and taxes. Offers come from leasing companies and dealers. The company began in 2017 at the Demium incubator in Barcelona and expanded into Italy and Portugal. It raised a €1.5M round led by Inveready in 2020, with backing from Demium and angels from the IESE Business Angels Network. In November 2021 the UK online car retailer Cazoo acquired Swipcar for about €30M, when it had around 100 employees. In December 2022 Renting Finders bought it from Cazoo, when it had more than 7,000 active subscriptions in Spain and Italy.
