UUniversitat Politècnica de Catalunya
Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC · BarcelonaTech) is a Barcelona-based public technical university that backs technology-based start-ups and spin-offs from its research through its Innovation Management Service. It supports company creation from university research results with technology transfer agreements, intellectual property protection, incubation and acceleration programmes such as Next Frontier Founders and the ESA BIC accelerator, and in some cases takes an equity stake in the new company. Its focus is deep tech across engineering, ICT, biomaterials, medtech and space, and it helps founders reach public and private funders rather than running its own fund. Since 1998 it has helped create more than 450 technology-based companies and holds equity in about 41 spin-offs, including Beamagine, Bio2Coat, Mimetis Biomaterials, Nimble Diagnostics, Rob Surgical Systems and Sparsity.
