Mapsi Photonics
Mapsi Photonics is a deeptech spin-off of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) that designs and manufactures infrared optical filters, windows and neutral-density filters based on a patented macroporous silicon platform, etching nanometric holes into silicon instead of stacking multilayer coatings for greater robustness in harsh environments. Its MWIR/LWIR filters target gas and biochemical sensing, thermal vision, autonomous driving and surveillance, industrial and environmental monitoring, and aerospace/astronomy instrumentation. Founded in 2021 and seed-funded (~€1.5M round led by Bullnet Capital in 2024, ~$2.1M total), it is a small team (roughly 8-10 people) headquartered in Sabadell (Barcelona).
