Toprural
Toprural was a Spanish online search and booking portal for rural accommodation (casas rurales, cottages, farmhouses), founded in Madrid in 2000 by François Derbaix and Marta Esteve and grown to list roughly 19,000+ rural properties across around 10 European countries. It raised about €1.5M, mainly from Bonsai Venture Capital and angel investors, and was acquired by HomeAway in April 2012 for a reported ~€12-14.5M. The company no longer operates independently and the brand has been absorbed; its founders remain active Madrid angel investors and operators, e.g. Derbaix at Indexa Capital and Esteve at Soysuper.
