Madrid-based biotech (Tres Cantos) founded in 2005 by José Ángel Escribano, developing CrisBio® and TopBac®, proprietary baculovirus-based insect-cell expression platforms used as living bioreactors to produce recombinant proteins and vaccines for human and animal health, therapeutics, and diagnostics. Previously backed by Spanish VC/PE investors, Algenex was acquired by pharmaceutical group Insud Pharma in October 2022, so it now operates as part of that group rather than as an independently VC-fundable startup.
