SScytl
Scytl is a Barcelona-founded election technology company that builds secure online voting, election management, results consolidation and eGovernance platforms for governments, electoral authorities and private organisations, backed by a large cryptography patent portfolio. Founded in 2001 as a spin-off of cryptography research at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, it raised over $100M from international VCs and ran electoral events in more than 30 countries. Scytl is no longer an independent startup — it filed for bankruptcy in Spain in 2020 with debts above €75M, was bought by Paragon Group's Service Point Solutions, and was acquired again in June 2024 by Comitia (Grupo MSA, Buenos Aires); the Spanish entity is Scytl Election Technologies SL.
