MMedicsen
Medicsen is a Madrid-based healthtech/medtech company developing the Smartpatch, a needle-free wearable drug delivery device that uses sonophoresis (ultrasound waves) to temporarily increase skin permeability and painlessly deliver large molecules such as insulin and heparin through the skin. Founded in 2015 by doctors Eduardo W. Jorgensen and Patricia Cremades with telecom engineers César de Mercado and José Carlos Montesinos, it started with a glucose-prediction app and AI-driven insulin delivery before focusing on the transdermal patch. Funding has been largely non-dilutive: around €5M secured in 2024 through the EU EIC Accelerator, Innovate UK Smart Grants and the Spanish Ministry of Science/CDTI, with an EIC equity component expected; no traditional VC fund is an equity investor.
