Deep Detection

Deep Detection is a Barcelona-based deep-tech company that makes spectral X-ray cameras for inspecting food on production lines. Its dual-energy line detectors use photon-counting technology and AI-based material classification to find low-density foreign bodies such as plastics, wood and bone. They are designed to cut false positives and product waste in sectors such as specialty crops, seafood and poultry. The company sells to inspection-machine integrators and food processors. It was founded in July 2020 as a spin-off of the Institut de Física d'Altes Energies (IFAE), launched through The Collider programme of Mobile World Capital Barcelona. It raised a €1M pre-seed round in November 2021 from Vigo Ventures and Clave Capital, with public co-financing. In July 2023 it closed a second round led by Bullnet Capital, with Tech Transfer Agrifood, Vigo Ventures and Intempo Ventures taking part.
