BattBelt
BattBelt is a Basque deep-tech startup, spun off in 2023 from the IKERLAN technology center near Arrasate-Mondragon, that develops a mechanical compression system built on smart/superelastic materials to manage internal pressure in lithium-ion battery cells during charge-discharge cycles and fast charging. Its BATTBELT technology targets extending battery lifespan by up to 50% for EV and maritime decarbonization applications without changing cell chemistry, energy density, or cost. The company closed a €630,000 round with BeAble Capital in late 2025 and won a 2026 MUBIL Mobility Award alongside Italian battery startup Novac.
