SSilbat
Silbat (Silbat Energy Storage Solutions, SL) is a Spanish deep-tech company developing long-duration electricity storage based on the latent heat of molten metallurgical-grade silicon: electricity is converted to heat and stored in silicon at ~1410°C, then reconverted to power via thermophotovoltaic cells, giving a silent, no-moving-parts, 10-100 hour storage module targeting CAPEX under $10/kWh. Spun out of the Institute of Solar Energy at the Technical University of Madrid and founded in 2019, it is seed-stage and backed by EIT InnoEnergy plus corporate partners/investors including Baker Hughes and Soltec, with Spanish public funding from CDTI. It was the first Spanish cleantech startup selected for the Shell GameChanger programme and aims to roll out its silicon batteries commercially around 2028.
