Onyx Solar is a Spanish manufacturer of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) glass, turning facades, skylights, canopies and curtain walls into transparent solar generators that also filter UV and infrared radiation. Founded in 2009 in Ávila and considered the global leader in its niche, it has supplied projects on five continents including the Miami Heat/American Airlines Arena, the Dubai Frame and Apple retail stores, and collaborates with MIT, UPM and the University of Barcelona. It is a mature industrial company (~60 employees) rather than a classic VC-backed tech startup, financed through a mix of regional risk capital, EU/ENISA innovation funding and private shareholders led by JME Venture Capital.
