Matteco is a Valencian deeptech company that develops platinum- and PGM-free catalysts, catalytic coatings and electrodes for green hydrogen production via alkaline (AWE) and anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolysis, claiming up to ~30% lower energy consumption. Founded in 2023 as a spin-off of the University of Valencia's Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) and built by impact venture builder Zubi Labs, it raised a €15M Series A in October 2024 to open a 10,000 m² advanced materials factory in Paterna (Valencia) capable of supplying electrodes for 1 GW of electrolysis a year. It already ships to customers in Europe, North America and Asia and won the 2024 Cinco Días Business Innovation Award.
