X1 Wind is a Barcelona-based floating offshore wind technology developer commercialising its patented PivotBuoy single-point-mooring, downwind tension-leg platform, which the company says cuts platform weight and cost substantially versus conventional floating designs. Founded in 2017 by Carlos Casanovas and Alex Raventos, it validated the concept offshore with the X30 part-scale demonstrator in the Canary Islands — the world's first fully functional TLP floating wind platform to export power to grid — and is now designing and certifying its commercial-scale X90 platform under the EU-funded X1 Accelerator project. Backed by industrial and institutional investors including Technip Energies (which took a 16.3% stake and two of nine board seats), the EIC Fund and EIT InnoEnergy.
