WWaynabox
Waynabox is a Barcelona-based online travel platform that sells surprise-destination trips: customers book a weekend getaway (round-trip flights plus two nights' accommodation) from around €150 and only learn where they are going 48 hours before departure, with the product also sold heavily as a gift. Founded in 2014-2015 by three aeronautical/computer engineers, it raised roughly €1.2-1.5M from Spanish VCs and corporate investors, won Best Tourism Startup at the EU-backed Startup Europe Awards, and has served 150,000+ travellers across Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and the UK. It is no longer an independent startup — Atresmedia (which had held a media-for-equity stake since 2015) acquired 100% of the company in March 2023, and it now operates as part of the Atresmedia group, led by CEO Jordi Agustí.
