MMendrugo
Mendrugo (originally launched as "Sr. Mendrugo") is a Spanish circular-economy craft beer brand that replaces roughly 50% of the malt in its Pilsen and Pale Ale with surplus stale bread collected locally, cutting food waste and water use. It was created in 2021 by Juan Cereijo, founder of the Burgos-based craft brewery Cerveza Mica, and is operated through Brewing Circular Movement, a joint venture between Cerveza Mica and Pascual Innoventures (Grupo Pascual's corporate venturing arm, which holds an 8% stake). Beer is brewed in Aranda de Duero (Ribera del Duero, Burgos); in May 2025 it opened its first taproom/bar in Madrid at Calle Campoamor 13, a zero-waste hospitality pilot intended to be replicated nationally, with partnerships including Repsol (bread collection at service stations) and Ilunion (inclusive employment).
