Aragon Photonics Labs is a Zaragoza-based photonics company specialising in distributed fibre optic sensing (DFOS), designing and manufacturing distributed acoustic sensors (HDAS, PDAS) and Brillouin strain/temperature analysers (BLAST) for power cables, railways, pipelines, seismology and perimeter security. Founded in 2004 as a spin-off of fibre-optic firm Fibercom together with the Photonic Technologies Group (GTF) of the University of Zaragoza, it built an award-winning patent portfolio (BOSA optical spectrum analyser, SPIE Prism Award 2009) and in 2018 absorbed FOCUS SL and its chirped-pulse phase-OTDR technology from the University of Alcalá. It is a deeptech hardware SME rather than a VC-backed startup — it transferred its telecom and solar product lines to ZEPREN Solutions in 2023 and is led by CEO Francisco M. López Torres. Its founders were corporate and academic entities.
