Solarcrop is a University of Jaén (UJA) deep-tech spin-off in agrivoltaics that has developed a new configuration of bifacial, semi-transparent photovoltaic modules designed to be installed over crops: the panels capture direct and reflected light for electricity generation while letting through the light quality crops need, shielding them from extreme temperatures and cutting water loss from evapotranspiration. The technology comes out of the AdPVTech (Advances in Photovoltaic Technology) research group at UJA's CEACTEMA centre, and in April 2024 deep-science investor BeAble Capital put €180,000 into the company, with a pilot plant planned in Murcia. SOLARCROP SL (CIF B56136997, Calle Virgen de la Cabeza 2, Jaén) was incorporated on 29 June 2023, and a voluntary dissolution was registered on 9 April 2025.
