Väcka is a Barcelona-based foodtech company making plant-based, lactose-free cheese alternatives using traditional fermentation and ageing combined with modern R&D — notably the market-first cheeses made from fermented melon seed milk and olive oil, plus functional products like protein and digestive creamers. Founders Luz Sanz and Maxime Boniface started as a vegan restaurant in the Gràcia neighbourhood (2015) and pivoted to manufacturing at Nest City Lab in 2019, closing the restaurant in 2021 to focus on a commercial cheese line now sold in 400-500+ points of sale (Carrefour, Veritas, Ametller, Herbolario Navarro) after winning the Carrefour Plant-Based Contest. It raised a €1.1M seed round in 2023 backed by Big Idea Ventures, Capital V, Leanox and Bolsa Social crowdfunding investors.
