MOWOOT is a Barcelona-based medtech company that develops a non-drug, non-invasive medical device for chronic constipation and severe bowel dysfunctions, including neurogenic bowel disorder, opioid-induced constipation and IBS with constipation. Its belt uses a patented technology called Intermittent Colonic Exoperistalsis to give an automatic, colon-specific massage, similar to the manual abdominal massage given by health professionals. The device is clinically validated and CE-marked as a Class IIa medical device under the MDR, and the company is ISO 13485 certified. It has intellectual property protection in the EU, USA, Canada and China. It sells in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and England and has distribution agreements covering Denmark, Peru, Thailand, Malaysia and the UAE. The company operates as usMIMA S.L. and was founded in November 2014 out of Biocat's Moebio d·HEALTH Barcelona programme, working with the Institut Guttmann neuro-rehabilitation hospital. It has raised about €6 million in private investment from backers including Genesis Ventures, 4M Medical, EIT Health, ENISA and USM Global Corporation, plus a €423k bridge round through Capital Cell in 2024 and €1.05 million as the first tranche of a Series A in 2025. It also received about €2.2 million in Next Generation EU public funding from Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
