Apadrinaunolivo.org is a non-profit social enterprise based in Oliete (Teruel) that recovers abandoned centenarian olive groves to fight rural depopulation. Individuals and companies sponsor an olive tree for an annual fee of €60 and receive extra virgin olive oil from the recovered trees each year. The organisation reopened the village's olive mill as a social mill and in 2023 expanded to Portugal as Apadrinhaumaoliveira.org. Founded in 2014, it has more than 7,500 sponsors and over 21,000 recovered olive trees, has created 45 jobs, and is funded through sponsor fees, awards, crowdfunding and support from corporate and philanthropic foundations.
