IDB Lab
IDB Lab is the innovation and venture arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, headquartered in Washington, D.C. It backs high-impact start-ups and the ecosystems around them in 26 Latin American and Caribbean countries, using grants, equity, quasi-equity and venture debt. Its aim is to reach vulnerable and underserved populations and to build sustainable, high-growth industries. Direct investments run from pre-seed to Series B, with typical tickets of $200K–$500K at seed and $1–3M at Series A/B, and venture-debt loans of $0.5–5M. It is also one of the region's most active investors in venture capital funds: it has backed more than 90 funds since 1996, usually committing $2–10M per fund, and holds more than 50 in its current portfolio. Recent commitments include Amador Seed Fund II and a venture-debt facility to Mexican lender Aviva.
