Mycrospace is a Valencia-based start-up that uses computer vision to automate the counting of bacterial and fungal colonies in microbiology laboratories. A photo taken with a phone or tablet returns the count in seconds, with no dedicated hardware needed. The company reports 97% accuracy and recognition of more than 25 types of colony count. It sells a tiered B2B SaaS subscription with iOS and Android apps, which run from a single-user plan up to multi-user enterprise accounts. Users include LabExcell, Valero Analíticas, VITEC and IATA SafEats, and the app has around 650 users in more than 35 countries. Mycrospace was founded in 2024 by biotechnologist Claudia Herrero Pina and deep-learning specialist Jaume Ivars Grimalt, and grew out of the Universitat Politècnica de València. In 2025 it won first prize in the business-project category of the IDEAS UPV 2K24 University Entrepreneur Competition, and it has opened a pre-seed round.
