Glovo is a Barcelona-based multi-category on-demand delivery platform whose app connects users with couriers who buy and deliver food, groceries, pharmacy items and almost anything else from local stores, plus its own network of dark stores and dark kitchens. Founded in 2015 by Oscar Pierre and Sacha Michaud, it became a Spanish unicorn and operates in roughly 20-30 countries across Southern/Eastern Europe, Africa and Central Asia. Its last venture round was a €450M Series F in April 2021 (the largest Spanish startup round at the time); since July 2022 it has been majority-owned by Germany's Delivery Hero, which holds ~94% of shares, so it now operates as a subsidiary rather than an independent venture-funded startup. It maintains a large Madrid office.
