Gemswell is a Madrid-based surf-park developer and operator building Gemswell Surf Madrid, a 23,000 m² Wavegarden-powered artificial surf lagoon — set to be Europe's largest — inside Atlético de Madrid's Ciudad del Deporte, alongside a skatepark, surf school, retail and 3,000 m² of dining, with opening slated for spring 2027. It is a capital-intensive leisure/infrastructure venture rather than a classic VC-backed tech startup: it was promoted by Stoneweg InfraSports (a Stoneweg + Teras Capital JV) with Atlético de Madrid, closed a €60M+ financing package in March 2026 (syndicated loan from Banco Santander and BBVA, plus a €15.7M subordinated loan from Buenavista Equity Partners' NextGen Urbano fund channelling EIB Regional Resilience Fund resources), and operates the Madrid asset through Gemswell Ventures SL. Gemswell aims to become the world's largest surf-park builder, with a second confirmed £50M project in Birmingham (UK). Leadership is exercised through the sponsor firms: Ramón Romero, Managing Director of Stoneweg InfraSports, and Miguel de Lucas, Managing Partner of Teras Capital.
