BBVA is a Madrid-headquartered Spanish banking group whose venture activity runs through BBVA Spark, a unit launched in 2022 to serve high-growth technology companies and venture capital funds. BBVA Spark offers venture debt, growth loans and banking services to start-ups and scale-ups in Spain, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, and has worked with more than 1,500 start-ups and technology companies. On the fund side, BBVA invests as a limited partner in venture funds including Propel Venture Partners (a fintech VC spun out of BBVA, with a total BBVA commitment of more than $400M), Sinovation Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Fifth Wall, Leadwind and Hy24. Through Propel, it has backed companies such as Coinbase, DocuSign, Hippo, Guideline and Neon.
