HHWS Concrete Towers
HWS Concrete Towers is a Basque engineering company that develops patented precast-concrete substructures and installation systems for the wind energy industry, aiming to cut the levelised cost of onshore and offshore wind. Its three products are AirBASE (a modular, 'Lego-like' precast wind turbine foundation, also usable for repowering), AirCRANE (a self-climbing crane that installs and maintains turbines at effectively unlimited hub height) and AirTOWER (full and hybrid concrete tower concepts up to ~220 m). Founded in 2015 in San Sebastián with roughly 3-6 employees, it holds a portfolio of ~11 awarded patents and has been funded largely by public R&D grants (EU Horizon 2020 SME Instrument, ~€2.5M for the AirCRANE project, plus CDTI, SPRI and Gipuzkoa regional support) rather than by venture capital.
