SSolaqua
Solaqua is a Madrid-based cleantech startup that designs and finances autonomous solar-powered irrigation systems for farmers and irrigation communities, using patented power-electronics technology (licensed from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid's Instituto de Energía Solar) that runs high-power pumping directly off PV without batteries or grid connection. It sells through a zero-upfront-cost model in which SPVs own the PV irrigation plant and sign 15-20 year PPAs with irrigators, and it targets rolling out ~100 MW of PV irrigation backed by private financing. Founded in 2020 by three solar-engineering PhDs, it is their third venture after QPV (Qualifying Photovoltaics) and Entec Solar, and it is an EIT InnoEnergy portfolio company; the technology builds on four EU R&D projects including the Horizon 2020 SolaQua project.
