PPerseo Biotechnology
Perseo Biotechnology is a Valencian biotech engineering company (L'Alcúdia, Valencia) that valorises the organic fraction of urban, agro-industrial and industrial waste, converting it into advanced bioethanol, bioproducts and bioenergy via its patented PERSEO Bioethanol process. It was incorporated in 2020 as a spin-off of the R&D department of metal-mechanical firm IMECAL, with Repsol taking a ~25% stake through Repsol Corporate Venturing; the underlying technology dates to a 2007 patent filed with CIEMAT. It operates a pre-commercial plant in L'Alcúdia processing ~25 tonnes of waste per day and has led EU projects such as URBIOFIN (the first demonstrative urban biorefinery). Its founding shareholders are companies (IMECAL and Repsol).
