SSurphase
Surphase (legal entity Ingenious Membranes S.L.) is a Basque deeptech startup that builds sensor-based technology for real-time, non-invasive detection of membrane fouling in reverse-osmosis desalination and water-treatment plants, claiming sensitivity around 1,000x higher than conventional methods and enabling predictive cleaning that cuts cleaning costs ~25% and extends membrane life 10–20%. Founded in 2018 as a spin-off of POLYMAT and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), it is based in Donostia-San Sebastián and also sells fouling-diagnostics consulting to food & beverage, oil & gas and pharma. In March 2024 it was the only Basque company among 68 selected Europe-wide by the EIC Accelerator, securing €2.5M, and it won the QIA 2024 award for business innovation.
