Barter Energy

Barter Energy is a Madrid-based developer and operator of solar communities in Spain. It leases large unused rooftops, installs photovoltaic plants at its own cost and sells the locally generated renewable electricity to homes and businesses within a 2-kilometre radius, which saves them up to 40% on their power bills without having to invest themselves. Isabel Reija, Miguel Salís and Martín Varsavsky created the company in 2019, and it launched publicly in 2021 with backing from Asterion Industrial Partners. By 2025 it had built 256 solar communities across 25 Spanish provinces, and that year the energy and telecom infrastructure operator Visalia acquired it from Energy Transition Solutions, an Asterion portfolio company, and minority shareholders including Kira Ventures.
