Techstars is a global pre-seed investor and startup accelerator, founded in 2006 in Boulder, Colorado, by David Cohen, David Brown, Brad Feld and Jared Polis. It runs three-month, mentorship-driven accelerator programmes worldwide and backs more than 500 early-stage companies a year across all sectors, investing $220K per company at acceptance ($200K on an uncapped MFN SAFE plus $20K for 5% common equity). Its affiliated Techstars Ventures funds have raised vehicles of $5M (2009), $25M (2012) and $155M (2014), and the network has helped more than 10,900 founders. The portfolio includes 29 unicorns.
